The most popular and most valuable jump race in Europe, the Grand National is prominent in British culture, even amongst people who do not normally watch or bet on horse racing at other times of the year. The sheer scale of the event means all of Liverpool is bursting with excitement all weekend long. For visitors, the huge event is like no other and for many it is an unmissable experience.

Ladies' Day

One of the biggest events in the North West, the Grand National attracts crowds of over 150,000 and over 600 million watching on TV all over the globe. First starting in 1839, it has been arguably the most popular horse race in the world.

The three-day event is jampacked with exciting events and races. The opening day, ‘A Day For Champions’ is sure to be thrilling. The event is often underrated but with four grade-one races it is arguably the day that horse-racing fans look forward to the most.

Ladies’ Day on the Friday is earmarked as the ‘fun day’ of the weekend. Expect wonderful fashion, lots of bubbles and certainly some famous faces. With big prizes and top-class racing to enjoy, the afternoon of partying is hard to miss out on.

A Thrilling Experience

The Saturday is by far the largest day of the weekend, as people flock from far and wide to attend the prestigious and thrilling day. Arriving early is recommended as the masses will of people all want a glimpse of the big races.

The atmosphere in the city is amazing leading up to the events and the area completely comes alive. Even if you don’t go into Aintree, Liverpool really is the place to be, with the city’s pubs, clubs and bars going all out to entertain the crowds of people visiting the city.
